Description
Here we have a lot of the 2 Rarest American Flyer O gauge 1938 Freight Cars for auction. Included is a Red & Silver #3213 Searchlight Car and a Silver and Green #3210 Tank Car. In 1938 only one set had the Searchlight Car and only three sets had the Tank Car.They are equipped with the unique sheet metal knuckle couplers which American Flyer calls "Automatic Couplers" in their 1938 consumer catalog. They were only used and available in 1938.
The Searchlight Car is missing its searchlight. Most of the time the searchlights on these cars are very loose, so many are lost or falling off their supporting brackets. The Tank Car has two creases in one of its metal end caps (see photo #11 ).
There is a small circular sticker shown on the copper dome (Photo #12) which I neglected to remove for the photographs. It now has been removed. Both are really dirty and would improve if carefully cleaned.
With a good cleaning, replacement searchlight (from a junker via eBay) , a replacement tanker end cap (ditto eBay) , and replacement decals (available on eBay) these two cars would likely go up a grade in condition.

I have been collecting and researching American Flyer O & S Gauge for 46 years and TCA member since 1975. I strive to accurate describe the cosmetic condition of each item with TCA Grading Standards and the rarity and desirability by my long experience with these trains. When appropriate, I will grade all visible surfaces, or if they grade the same, I provide an overall condition grade. Also, I point out any reproduction parts that I recognize or any surface restoration that appears to not be original.
